Description
When the results from a comprehensive water quality test show that the pH of your well water is low, an Acid Neutralizer System may be recommended. This Acid Neutralizer system uses calcite (calcium) to increase the water pH and reduce the corrosiveness/acidity of your well water; it is typically installed at point-of-entry, that is, a whole-house water treatment system. This service includes both the Acid Neutralizer System and the installation.
Why Increase the pH of Your Well Water?
When well water passes through bedrock, it can become acidic, most notably, when the pH is below 6.5. Over time, low pH/acidic well water can corrode (wear away) household plumbing, including water treatment systems, pipes, faucets, and the pressure tank, and leach metals such as copper, lead, cadmium, and zinc from the well pump and plumbing system into the water. Long-term exposure to corrosive water will noticeably shorten the life of water treatment systems and household plumbing and appliances. Additionally, if these leached metals are present in drinking water in amounts higher than levels set by the U.S.EPA, they can lead to health problems and unnecessary costly repairs.
