Description
After a comprehensive water test a Water Softener System may be identified as needing service. Several components of the softener system will be inspected and if necessary replaced:
- Resin bed may need replacement
- Control head many need to be adjusted, or replaced
- Control valve many need to be cleaned or replaced
- Brine tank may need cleaning
- Brine hose may need to be replaced
How Important is the Service
A water softener removes the calcium and magnesium ions that make water hard by replacing them with salt / sodium via ion exchange. Not only does this system remove the magnesium and calcium it also removes several other metals including iron and manganese which are prevalent in New England area wells. Not installing a softener when these metals are present can cause scaling in your infrastructure (including making your hot water heater much less efficient), and clogging shower head fixtures. Using a softener system to remove iron and manganese will eliminate rust or brown staining in plumbing fixtures like toilets and sinks.
